Organization The resounding success of this edition is the result of perfect synergy between administrative authorities and the sector’s technical committee. Placed under the general supervision of the Governor of the West Region, the competitions were solemnly launched on Friday, May 22, by the Secretary General of the Governor’s Office, Mr. Epente Tazeu Adray, acting as the personal representative of the regional chief executive.At the forefront of this organization, Mr. Ymga Djamen Léopold, Regional Delegate of Basic Education (DREB) for the West, infused a rigorous managerial dynamic into all preparatory phases. Thanks to his technical expertise, the deployment of his teams, and constant coordination, the organizing committee provided the delegations with optimal accommodation and competition conditions, which were highly praised by all participants.
A Solemn Closing Ceremony and a Commendable Outcome
The time for stocktaking came this Saturday, May 23. Mr. Joseph Batonga, Head of the Division of Economic, Social and Cultural Affairs, also representing the Governor of the West Region, presided over the grand closing ceremony on the esplanade of Lycée Classique de Bafoussam, alongside the Regional Delegate, Mr. Ymga Djamen Léopold.In his closing address, the Governor’s representative praised the professionalism of the trainers, the dedication of the referees, and the spirit of healthy emulation that prevailed throughout the event. He extended warm congratulations to the Regional Delegation of Basic Education for the flawless execution of the event, reminding everyone that school sports remain the primary incubator for civic values and national cohesion.
Suspense on the Pitch: Bamboutos Kings of the Green Rectangle
Nine disciplines were on the agenda for this edition (football for boys and girls, athletics, volleyball, basketball, handball, pentathlon, table tennis, wrestling, and goalball), spread across dedicated facilities: Lycée Classique, the Multisports Complex, the Bafoussam City Council Gymnasium (CUB), the Inter-ministerial Building, and the Saint-Thomas College field.The major highlight of the weekend was undoubtedly the football final, which offered a memorable show to the public. Facing Mifi in an extremely tight and tactical match, the team from Bamboutos Division eventually made the difference. Following a draw at the end of regular time, the Bamboutos players kept their composure to win during the fateful penalty shootout, securing a prestigious victory.
Final Rankings: Mifi and Menoua Honored
Despite this setback on the football pitch, Mifi’s consistency in the other disciplines allowed them to dominate the final standings. Mifi Division thus claimed the first place on the podium and the prestigious General Trophy of the Games, after having already won over the jury during the opening ceremony by winning the prize for the best delegation in the march-past.This strong team was closely followed in the general classification by Menoua, which secured 2nd place while also walking away with the highly coveted Fair-Play Trophy, a symbol of the exemplary behavior of its athletes and supporters. Finally, driven by its heroic football coronation, the Bamboutos division captured a well-deserved 3rd place on the regional podium.
Next Stop: National Finals in Garoua
The curtains have closed in Bafoussam, but the adventure is just beginning for the finest young athletes of the West Region. Under the technical guidance of the Regional Delegation of Basic Education, the top athletes and teams from these regional finals are immediately entering a preparation camp. They will have the noble mission of defending the flag of the “Sun-Down” Region during the FENASSCO Ligue B national finals, scheduled to take place from June 18 to 27 in Garoua, North Region. The West Region fully intends to make its colors shine and bring back precious national laurels.
