A solemn arrival in Tonga
On May 15, 2026, the body of Marcel Niat Njifenji arrived in the West Region.
The funeral convoy was received in Tonga by the regional governor and local authorities.
Large crowds lined the roads.
Residents paid a final tribute to one of their most prominent figures.

Top state officials attended the ceremony.
Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute was present.
The Speaker of the National Assembly and Senate President Aboubakary Abdoulaye also attended.
The latter represented the Head of State.

The funeral service was led by Reverend Alexandre Billa Mbenga.
He heads the Evangelical Church of Cameroon.
Diplomatic representatives and traditional leaders also attended.
The ceremony highlighted national unity in honoring the late statesman.
He will be laid to rest in Bangangté.
