The Governor’s Office and the Regional Delegation of MINEPDED launch the 53rd World Environment Day with an eco-citizen march.
Leading by example through concrete action and raising public awareness about the ecological emergency—this is the purpose of the strong initiative carried out this morning in Bafoussam. As a prelude to the celebration of the 53rd World Environment Day, under the international theme “A Global Call to Climate Action,” the Services of the Governor of the West Region officially launched the commemorative activities.
This major field initiative, marked by a large awareness and public sanitation march, took place under the leadership of Mr. Epente Tazeu Adray, Secretary General of the Governor’s Office, personal representative of the Governor, and under the technical supervision of the Regional Delegate for Environment, Nature Protection and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED) for the West.
A Citizen March at Dawn
Starting at 6:30 a.m., the esplanade of the Governor’s Office served as the gathering point for a dynamic institutional and citizen mobilization, determined to translate government guidelines into visible local action.
The eco-citizen deployment followed a strategic and densely populated route, linking the Central Post Office Roundabout, the Courthouse Roundabout, Market A, the Lower Total axis, the One-Way Street, then the Auberge Roundabout, the Camp Sable traffic light, and the Tourism Crossroads, ending at the Tocket Stadium esplanade.
Throughout this route, administrative teams, guided by environmental sector experts, conducted systematic waste collection, cleaning the city’s streets while directly engaging the population on the importance of environmental responsibility.
Objective: A Clean and Committed City
Beyond the sanitation effort, this synergy between the administrative authorities and the sectoral delegation enabled a vital grassroots awareness campaign targeting traders, transport operators, and local residents.
Through this direct dialogue, the regional administration reaffirmed that the fight against climate change and the preservation of our ecosystem depend on the involvement of every citizen in responsible waste management and maintaining a clean living environment.
Through this exemplary mobilization, the West Region demonstrates a perfect convergence of efforts to address sustainable development challenges.
More Activities Planned
This large eco-citizen march thus marks the launch of a dense and diversified program that will energize the region throughout the week.
Activities will continue this Thursday in the Mifi Division, with a major tree-planting operation at Baleng High School starting at 9:30 a.m., followed by a thematic panel discussion in the conference hall of the Governor’s Office.
The highlight of the commemoration will take place this Friday at 11:00 a.m., during the official ceremony celebrating World Environment Day, which will be presided over personally by His Excellency the Governor of the West Region.
