Cameroon’s Road Fund has launched an evaluation mission in the West Region as of Monday, May 4, 2026. Chaired by Governor Awa Fonka Augustine, the initiative aims to assess the execution of road projects funded under the national Road Fund scheme.
Official launch under the authority of the West Region governor
The mission was officially launched during a meeting held at 8 a.m. in Bafoussam, presided over by Governor Awa Fonka Augustine.
The field operations are being led by Mr. Mbeumo Sandre, acting on behalf of El Hadj Oumarou, who was unable to attend.
First site inspections in the Koung-Khi Division
The opening day focused on the Koung-Khi Division, with inspections conducted in the municipalities of Pete-Bandjoun and Bayangam.
In Pete-Bandjoun, the team reviewed ongoing maintenance works on several municipal roads.
In Bayangam, site visits covered:
- triple surface dressing works on the Chiefdom of Bayangam – Metcheka Residence – Kassap road section;
- maintenance works on the 4.2 km stretch linking Old Bayangam toll gate (MC2) to Kassap.
The delegation spent the night in Bafoussam.
A legally grounded evaluation framework
The mission is conducted in line with Decree No. 2012/173 of March 29, 2012, which mandates the Road Fund’s Management Committee to oversee contract compliance and project execution.
It also aligns with the 2026 Annual Performance Plan, focused on optimizing resources allocated to road maintenance.
Clear objectives for improved road governance
The evaluation seeks to:
- review implementation of recommendations from the August 2025 mission;
- assess progress on selected national, regional and municipal road projects;
- verify consistency between budgets and executed works;
- identify technical challenges related to road infrastructure;
- issue practical recommendations.
Expected outcomes by mid-May 2026
By the end of the mission on May 17, 2026, the Management Committee plans to deliver:
- an updated assessment report;
- a monitoring matrix for inspected projects;
- a comprehensive evaluation report on road works in the West Region.
