Education authorities in Cameroon’s West Region met in Bafoussam on 7 May 2026 to assess the 2025 school year, prepare for the 2026 examinations and reward outstanding female pupils.
A strategic education meeting in Bafoussam
The end-of-year sectoral conference for basic education was held in Bafoussam on 7 May 2026.
The meeting was chaired by Adray Epenté Tazeu, Secretary General of the Governor’s Office.
He represented the Governor of the West Region, Awa Fonka Augustine.
Assessing past results and planning ahead
Under the technical coordination of Léopold Ymga, Regional Delegate for Basic Education, officials reviewed the 2025 examination session.
The aim was to draw lessons for the upcoming 2026 examinations.
Participants focused on improving organisation and preparation standards.
Guidelines and candidate preparation
Officials were briefed on official instructions governing the conduct of exams.
Attention was also given to the psycho-pedagogical preparation of candidates ahead of certification assessments.
The discussions highlighted the need for consistency and discipline.
Preparing the 2026–2027 school year
The conference also addressed early planning for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Education stakeholders stressed the importance of long-term anticipation.
This approach is intended to ensure smoother implementation of school activities.
School sports and the FENASSCO games
Preparations for school sports competitions were also reviewed.
Athletes from the West Region will participate in the FENASSCO League B Games in Garoua.
Technical supervisors were urged to ensure disciplined and competitive participation.
Scholarships awarded to top female students
A highlight of the event was the award of scholarships to the best female students from the 2025 CEP and FSLC examinations.
The initiative is funded by the State through the Minister of Basic Education, Professor Laurent Serge Etoundi Ngoa.
State commitment to girls’ education
The grants, worth up to 200,000 CFA francs, are designed to promote girls’ education.
They also encourage families to support academic excellence among female students.
The programme reflects government efforts to reduce gender disparities in education.
Call for integrity ahead of the 2026 exams
In closing, the Governor’s representative urged education stakeholders to uphold integrity and vigilance.
He called for full mobilisation to ensure a successful and credible 2026 examination session.
